I am the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Wellington, Texas, a small town nestled into the barren plains of the Texas Panhandle. I graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with an M.Div in May 2011. During the first years of my seminary life, being a pastor was near the bottom of the list of things I wanted to do with my education, but the Lord had other ideas. He utilized Southern Seminary, Ninth and O Baptist Church, Verizon Wireless, JPMorgan Chase Bank, a host of professors and friends, an encouraging wife and four wonderful children to mold me into a man who can now envision himself doing nothing else but preaching the excellencies of Christ in the local church.
My wife Kedra and I have four children–from youngest to oldest–Abigail, Nathan, Luke, and Hannah. While walking out of Southern Seminary one day with all of these kids in tow, a man who to this day I’m sure wouldn’t remember the moment, stopped to help me get the stroller down the stairs out in front of Norton Hall and made the comment as he looked at my family, “Sir… You are a rich man.” That stuck with me. When I look at the picture above, I feel rich beyond measure. A pastor, a husband, a father of four, once a citizen of the dominion of darkness, now brought into the glorious kingdom of God by the sheer sovereign mercy of Christ… Rich indeed.
